ARTISTS OPEN HOUSES, BRIGHTON

30 April - 30 May 2016
Overview

This May the Artists Open Houses Brighton festival covered five weekends. It started on Bank Holiday Saturday 30th April and ran until Bank Holiday Monday 30th May. Each weekend artists in Brighton, Hove, Ditchling, Rottingdean and the Ouse valley throw open their homes and studios. They bring you everything from sculpture and painting to jewellery, ceramics and textile. More than 1,000 artists exhibit their work in venues citywide and in the surrounding area, providing art lovers with an engaging and inspiring experience. Not to mention an opportunity to buy work and chat directly with the creators! This year over 60 new Open Houses took part for the first time. Gerard Byrne, as a newcomer to Brighton, was one one of them.

The Gerard Byrne Studio featured as one of the festival highlights and not to be missed venue. Every weekend hundreds of art lovers visited his Studio giving fantastic feedback. It was an opportunity to view the artist's most recent collection of vibrant figurative works and contemporary impressionist plein-air landscapes. The selection included oil paintings and charcoal sketches inspired by Brighton and Hove, Richmond and London street scenes, as well as last summer's Provencal light.
